   Bad sense of arrival, poor ambience, kitchen is downstairs and restaurant upstairs, lack of details, ...in Spanish we say " un querer y no poder" ...I foresee dark future to this place...

   My husband & I travelled to Ramsgate from London for the Bank Holiday weekend. We were really looking forward to dinner at Age & Sons that was booked few weeks previously. As we wanted to explore more of Ramsgate we changed our reservation from 8pm to 9pm. We were running slightly late and called up to let them know. When we got there we were told that the kitchen CLOSES AT 9PM and they wouldnt serve us. How no one thought to tell us that at any point is beyond me! The guy we spoke to was far from apologetic and seemed uninterested and instead of maybe offering us a lunch reservation the next day, had a "well that's tough" attitude. If Age & Sons tries to be an upmarket restaurant, they need to learn a thing or two about customer service!

   I have eaten here several times and the food is always interesting and good I wanted to have the set menu as this is good value But it was not offeredSo rather than embarrass my guest We ate from the a la carte Menu this made it an expensive outing And there is no reasonable House wine £16.95for a basic rose is not a bargain for the customer.However the sea bass was perfectly cooked and the braised lettuce unusual and tasty as an accompanimentMy companions pork loin with prunes was delish but bit boring just a few potatoes with it We shared a chocolate nemesis and both loved it Would go again if set menu was availableService was attentive but would have liked more seasonal veg included in menu nice to sit by the window.Good to see it busy

   Interesting and unusual food such as 'pigs head fritters', friendly service and a pleasant environment. Good selection of reasonably priced wines as well as a range of much pricier fine wines if you're splashing out.

   A warm welcome. We had a drink in the cocktail bar first - a quirky underground bar where we were surprised and delighted to listen to Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder being played. The upstairs restaurant is light and airy with a collection of interesting art on the walls. A small menu - which suits us - and indicates the chef is concentrating on quality rather than quantity of choice. Excellent bread, very good food and helpful service (the recommended wine was spot on) - what more could we want?

   Our table wasn't ready on arrival so we were re directed to the bar where we failed to be served as only 1 bar tender was working on a busy Saturday evening. 15 minutes later we were shown to our table. We failed to get the attention of any member of staff. 25 minutes later we decided to leave. The service was appalling and a disappointing start to a Birthday evening. Our party felt that Age and Sons should not accept bookings if they cannot cater for their customers. We won't return and cannot recommend. The review requires me to rate food and value - have given 1/5 but I didn't actually experience either due to poor service.
