Anton and Michel is now open INDOORS and OUTDOORS at the COURT of the FOUNTAINS.
LUNCH: 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM / DINNER: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
Reservations are highly recommended.

Since 1980, Anton and Michel has consistently maintained an award-winning reputation for true excellence in the art of fine dining. A complete interior remodel was recently completed features handset stonework throughout the restaurant. The floor to ceiling windows offer breathtaking views of the Court of the Fountains. Zagat Survey calls it: Carmel’s long-standing paean to graciousness in dining out. Along with updated and contemporary changes to the menus, ultimate table side service flambé desserts remain. As quoted in the Wine Spectator, Anton and Michel is “probably the best dining experience in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea”.

                                                        I ordered the rack of lamb and my wife ordered the chicken. First of all, the plating for a restaurant like this seemed absolutely amateur. Carrots and rice for her, same exact carrots and a potato dish for me. My rack of lamb was fantastic but my wife’s chicken was murdered. The waiter remedied this by just bringing us butter to douse the dry chicken in . He didn’t even ask how it was afterwards. And the one my wife left hungry, not having touched the chicken or the carrots, there was absolutely no curiosity as to why we would be leaving in under an hour with her plate pretty much full. No questions on if it was good, no questions on how things could be remedied. Most restaurants that they charge even remotely close to this price, can cook chicken or at worst, offer to remedy a screwup like this when the chicken is literally flaking like sandpaper. Never coming back but with family here, we will warm then to not make the same mistake. It is pretty sad for management though to not train weight staff in recognizing signs that something is really wrong. Is it when someone orders a meal and doesn’t touch it, maybe ask if there was anything wrong. Or when the chicken has turned into jerky, don’t offer sauce to rehydrated, but offer to make the same piece of chicken in a way that wasn’t mutilated. We don’t want hand outs -‘we want this cool place to not go the way of the many others who failed after folks realize “yeah, the food and service sucks but the atmosphere is nice”. Please fix!

                                                        This is a solid choice for dinner. We had the liver pate, lamb shank, and lasagna. Everything was tasty, fresh and cooked well. Service was efficient, friendly and welcoming.

                                                        Be it special occasions with family or friends, a night out in Carmel or an outdoor lunch this establishment is always five stars. The service is impeccable and the food delicious. Anton & Michel is a gem of a restaurant in beautiful downtown Carmel.

                                                        So much to love here! First, we hit bad traffic coming south on Hwy 1, and the restaurant was extremely gracious about pushing back our (lunch) reservation. Second, the menu has something for everyone. My husband tried the special salmon sandwich on brioche and was in heaven. I had the duck confit salad on frisee with a poached egg and mustard vinaigrette. So good. I say this as someone who loves bitters greens, but having both radicchio and endive was a lot of bitter. Wouldn't have minded more frisee and maybe some croutons? Now, we have to talk about the fries. The server gave us a hint that they are extraordinary, AND THEY ARE! I'm considering driving back to Carmel just to get a plate of those fries. (Didn't try the sweet potato fries.) Thank goodness my husband shared them with me. Here's the only drawback: parking in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Next time, we'll try to find something on the outskirts of town and walk into town. Would have been faster and we could have worked off a few fries.

                                                        This place was exactly what we were looking for in our last night visiting the area. Service was impeccable and the food was amazing! We are already looking forward to coming back to enjoy in the next few months.

                                                        We often come to Carmel for Xmas and always have dinner here. This trip they had a scrumptious prime rib special. Highly recommend!

                                                        We enjoyed our Christmas dinner immensely. Our server was superb. Wine and food pricing was good for quality served. We would definitely go back.
