Atmosfera affascinante

Since 1746, the building that houses this tavern has played a part in the establishment of our nation; first as a respite for stagecoach travelers expanding westward and later as a covert rendezvous point for George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, and other leaders of the American revolution. It is believed that during the infamous winter of 1777–1778 at Valley Forge, a major figure in the Continental Army, master military mind Friedrich Von Steuben, designated the tavern as a secret black powder munitions stash for Continental Army couriers. All the while, the tavern continued to provide food, shelter and cheer to the hungry, weary soldiers fighting for their independence. Today, we honor our historic tavern’s tradition with a mission to raise the spirits of our guests. We invite you to experience the small and large plates, craft beers and revolutionary hospitality that is Black Powder Tavern.

Last night, we enjoyed a fun evening with our friends in the bar. We had a great time, and the thin bartender with the longer brown hair, beard and mustache took care of us. We've had him before but I forgot his name. On the receipt it said Bar D. When my salted caramel apple martini tipped due to the uneven table, he was able to refresh it and he also made it to my liking, light salt. :) The bacon wrapped stuffed dates with goat cheese were good, which I wasn't sure what to expect. We also had the pretzel sticks, and they filled me up to the point where I ate less of my short ribs, but will get to enjoy them again this weekend. Of course, we had to save room for dessert. We were celebrating my husband's bday, and a belated holiday party. The chocolate coconut dessert was scrumptious and the other couple said that the bread pudding and seasonal crisp were outstanding too. We love coming to Black Powder Tavern because we know we will always have a good meal and great service!!!

Good neighborhood place - good service and food is typical pub grub but done well. Prices are typical for area. Ambiance of restaurant is nice and comfortable and it has a nice bar area.

I have eaten at Black Powder several time and I have always had a good experience. We went on New Years Eve and one of the reasons was we were able to order off of the regular menu. Many restaurants only offer a price fixe menu and it can be expensive. Black Powder offered both. The food is very good and the service is attentive. The manager was also walking around checking on tables. 3 of the people with my group had not been to the restaurant and they had a good experience. I liked the fact that we could talk around our table and hear each other. They have valet parking if you want but you don't have to. Overall, a good experience at Black Powder. I would recommend this restaurant. My only comment that I would like is they don't have any sweet wine on their menu.

First dining experience was out of this world. So disappointed in myself that it took me so long to dine at such a nearby, historic restaurant. Food was incredible, and SO many drink selections including mixed drinks and an impressive tap list. Great service, and the restaurant has such a cozy vibe and classic charm. Will definitely be back!
