The Chalet Basque restaurant is a family style restaurant serving dishes inspired by the Basque regions of France and Spain. Located in San Rafael, California, the owner and proud staff would like to invite you to come join us for our delicious cuisine, full bar and outdoor patio. In keeping with traditional Basque culture, our restaurant has an old school, comfy feel. We serve hearty Basque dishes and make a different fresh soup each day. Dishes such as escargot, frog legs and rack of lamb keep us anchored to our deep Basque and French roots. While our vegetarian plate, and similar dishes, show our influence by Northern California. Join us for a romantic first date, a night out with the guys, a relaxing end to a stressful day at work or a wedding rehearsal and everything in between. Our restaurant is also available for Banquets and parties upon reservation.

                                                  We had a great dinner as always at Chalet Basque! Been going there for years, never disappoints! The bartender Stephen made great drinks and the food and service were wonderful! We love the Chicken Cordon Bleu with the cheese sauce!! Yum!! Soup and Salad is included to round out the great entrees! Patrick and his staff made for an enjoyable evening!!

                                                  My girlfriend and went back and they did a fabulous job on food, service, & atmosphere. We were treated like old friends, I would highly recommend them for a date or a big family event.

                                                  Lovely outdoor patio with a Spanish guitarist/singer. Friendly and attentive wait staff. Excellent menu although the veal one of my party wanted was out. Dinner include a delicious watercress soup and a salad. Prices have gone up a bit I would say average entree $30-35. Good wine list and full bar. Food was well prepared and very good.

                                                  Been going here since the 60's as a child. Not much has changed - it's as good as it always has been .. consistent over time is a winner. Food was fabulous. Reasonable prices on cocktails and wine. Excellent Cosmo! Duck l'orange was delish! Service absolutely spot on, quick, kind and professional.

                                                  This is the first time I was disappointed. The entree I wanted was not available. I wish I had known that from the start. I had to look at the menu again and decided on the linguini with chicken. Was just okay, wished I had ordered something else. They seemed to be short handed in staff. Have been there several times and always had a pleasant experience.

                                                  We had a lovely, leisurely, delcious meal. We ordered two of the specials - duck two ways and lamb, and both were outstanding. As a side, the scalloped potatoes are to die for! We spent a happy two hours there, just eating, drinking and enjoying ourselves. Look forward to going back again soon!

                                                  Food was delicious. Service and atmosphere needed help. I hadn't been to Chalet Basque in 30 years. It appears run down as you enter from the parking lot. Service seemed very unengaged. We had a wonderful time dining in the patio despite the bees.

                                                  Our family had an early Sunday dinner. We had a reservation. There were no other patrons there when we arrived . We were placed in a table partly in the sun. It turned into a very busy isle. The waiter was courteous, but not attentive. Our meal was prepared expertly, the serving size was adequate. The highlight was the steak with ‘ Bearnaise ‘sauce. While we all enjoyed our meal, due to our hunger, the rest of the experience was somewhat of a let down. Maybe expectations were way higher than the outcome.
