Chaplin's Restaurant & Bar is a 1930's style Japanese Ramen House and cocktail bar. Chaplin's Executive Chef and Partner, Myo Htun, is originally from Burma, but was cooking ramen in Japan at a young age. Myo received a blessing from his mentor in Japan after nearly 30 years of cooking in Japan, to come to America and continue to showcase his authentic Ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chaplin's Restaurant demonstrates the aesthetic of a bustling ramen house in Japan in the 1930's silent film era. There is also a large outdoor dining area that is dog friendly. Chaplin's is located in the heart of the Historic Shaw neighborhood. And it is open until last call 7 days a week. Chaplin's received a Plate certification in the Michelin Guide in 2020. And it is located steps from the convention center and popular Logan Circle, 14th street and City Market.

                                                                                                          Had a reservation for restaurant week and was seated promptly. Food came out hot and fresh. Service was fantastic! Our server, Tony, was attentive and went above and beyond. Would recommend.

                                                                                                          The food was absolutely fantastic, but what truly elevated our experience was our server, Tony. Despite the busy atmosphere, he was consistently attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed and checking in on us regularly.                                                                                                           We visited for a late family lunch on Sunday after the car show. The restaurant was very busy, but the staff and servers were doing a great job ensuring everyone was served in a timely manner. The food was delicious and fantastic value - the restaurant week menu making it even better value.

                                                                                                          Great first time in all in all, the table we had was awkwardly positioned and felt like an after thought as we were separated from the bar by a tiny see through wall. So we got to see all the garnished drinks going out, but were often bumped into by the wait staff and bussers simply because of the tight proximity to the wall, walkway, and bar. I would move the two topper elsewhere and shove the four topper against the wall instead.

                                                                                                          Overall a decent experience, I am generally a fan of Chaplin’s, but our server kept offering us shots and made it seem like they were on the house… only to charge us $17 per shot and nearly double the expected bill. I felt conned at the end of the night and have learning never to accept a drink from a server unless I am sure it is on the house. I’ve always had a good experience at Chaplin’s but will unfortunately never return as I feel used and taken advantage of by our waiter.

                                                                                                          I love Chaplin’s and try to go when I’m in DC. The food never disappoints! It’s not the place for a cozy night out because it’s pretty loud inside. The food, though, kinda makes up for that. So, so delicious!

                                                                                                          Our server, Paulina was awesome. She was very knowledgeable about the drinks and food options which helped my party (some who had never been). The food and drinks were good as well. The only think I didn’t like was that the staff had to keep coming in out of this door where were seated.
