Chaplin's Restaurant & Bar is a 1930's style Japanese Ramen House and cocktail bar. Chaplin's Executive Chef and Partner, Myo Htun, is originally from Burma, but was cooking ramen in Japan at a young age. Myo received a blessing from his mentor in Japan after nearly 30 years of cooking in Japan, to come to America and continue to showcase his authentic Ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chaplin's Restaurant demonstrates the aesthetic of a bustling ramen house in Japan in the 1930's silent film era. There is also a large outdoor dining area that is dog friendly. Chaplin's is located in the heart of the Historic Shaw neighborhood. And it is open until last call 7 days a week. Chaplin's received a Plate certification in the Michelin Guide in 2020. And it is located steps from the convention center and popular Logan Circle, 14th street and City Market.

                                                                                                          We treated a friend to a birthday dinner at Chaplin. We heartily approved of the food. Each of us enjoyed his ramen, and the Japanese-style appetizers were also very good. We also appreciated that the restaurant offers happy hour drink specials until 7 pm on weekends. Service was also fine. We were less enthused by the dining room. Incredibly dark! Granted, we were the three oldest patrons in the restaurant, but it was difficult to discern how even folks in their 20s could have read the menu in the ambient light. The sound level in the room was also quite high (the sound system was belting out tunes that seemed intended for people 15 years older than the median diner), which made conversation difficult. We ate our prior meals at Chaplin on the patio, which is preferable when weather permits. More comfortable, quieter, and even after sunset, less dark!

                                                                                                          Great vibes - had an awesome soundtrack going and great service. Food was reasonably priced and very tasty. I recommend the shumai.

                                                                                                          Had a reservation for restaurant week and was seated promptly. Food came out hot and fresh. Service was fantastic! Our server, Tony, was attentive and went above and beyond. Would recommend.

                                                                                                          The food was absolutely fantastic, but what truly elevated our experience was our server, Tony. Despite the busy atmosphere, he was consistently attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed and checking in on us regularly. His friendly and professional service made our meal even more enjoyable. Thank you, Tony, for your outstanding service!

                                                                                                          We visited for a late family lunch on Sunday after the car show. The restaurant was very busy, but the staff and servers were doing a great job ensuring everyone was served in a timely manner. The food was delicious and fantastic value - the restaurant week menu making it even better value.

                                                                                                          Great first time in all in all, the table we had was awkwardly positioned and felt like an after thought as we were separated from the bar by a tiny see through wall. So we got to see all the garnished drinks going out, but were often bumped into by the wait staff and bussers simply because of the tight proximity to the wall, walkway, and bar. I would move the two topper elsewhere and shove the four topper against the wall instead.
