Finally, a New York style atmosphere and experience crosses the Hudson to Central Jersey. Char Steakhouse's innovative cuisine features only the finest cuts of Dry Aged and Prime Beef with fish delivered fresh daily. Guests will dine by landscaped views revealed by towering windows. Mahogany wood walls and ceiling treatments create an authentic steakhouse environment rivaled by none in the New Jersey dining scene. Unique features include four modern fireplaces that are the first of their kind, a curved wall of water that rains serenity in the aptly named Rain Room. Guests can enjoy 7 cuts of the finest quality dry aged beef or snack on oysters and colossal blue crab from our premier raw bar. Seating in the lounge is offered on a first come first serve basis or party goers can reserve arched custom booths for up to twelve. The negatives: Despite a reservation, we had to wait 15-20min for a table. Not tragic, but why have a reservation if we have to wait anyway. The popovers were overdone and too hard on the outside. Not crispy, downright hard. Our steaks were prepared backwards. Mine was to be more rare than my wife's, but they came opposite. (Not just switched plates, since we ordered different size filet mignons, and the doneness tags matched our orders, but the meat didn't match the tags). They weren't very warm either. (I suspect my medium rare was sitting long enough to become well done and cold) Bread pudding was also overdone and rubber. Tables were much closer together than we recalled in the past, and all were occupied, so the noise level was very high. We don't like having to shout to have a conversation, especially when there are tables close on either side and everyone hears each other's conversation. Not to mention the waiters stand between tables with their butts against our table when talking to the neighbors. Positives (there are some): Once we switched our plates, the meat was tasty, tender and of good quality. Sides (salad and potatoes au gratin) were very good. The cheesecake was also very good. The menu has a good selection of steak and seafood, with a nice variety of salads, sides and starters. The waiter was very attentive, professional and pleasant. The overall look and feel of the place is nice, just too noisy due to packing so many people in. We were celebrating my wife's birthday, and they made efforts to make her feel welcome and special. It has been a while since we were there, but this was one of our favorite restaurants for some years. Never disappointed, and we've taken larger parties (12) there. Pricey, but was always outstanding, so we felt it well worth the splurge once in a while. This visit was very disappointing. For about $100 a person, without cocktails or wine, we expect much better. Not sure we'll be back.

Char did not disappoint. Steak was perfectly cooked. Apps were delicious as were our sides. The service was excellent as well. A little pricey but well worth it.

This was our first time at Char, we would definitely go again. The steaks were cooked perfectly, truly enjoyable.

We go to a Char every couple of months. I always get the filet and lobster and love their famous popovers! The specialty cocktails and wine selection are all excellent and the service is exceptional. My husband enjoys the raw bar and Ribeye.

If you love crab cakes, his is the place for you! this is the second time I have ordered crab cakes and they were still outstanding. I convinced my friends to try them and they loved them too! The service is great and the atmosphere was lively. We will be ack!

The food was absolutely delicious. The Chefs preparation of the food is amazing…The ambiance is great and the staff especially Taylor N were delightful!

We went to celebrate my wife's bday. The food, service, ambiance were top-notch. Our waiter, Daniel, was very attentive without being overbearing. Overall, a wonderful night!

I didn't know what to expect since it was our first time there. Great environment and the place itself was nice and neat since it was night time so don't know about daytime. The food was delicious 🤤. I had crab cake and bone in steak and my lady had lamb chops and Mack and cheese. The dishes were delicious. The crab cake was a small portion and price was a little high but delicious. Overall it was a great experience and i recommended for a date night out.
