Meat & Potatoes is a high end gastropub in downtown Pittsburgh. Its kitchen takes as its inspiration the idea of elevating comfort food to a gourmet level. Its chefs are inspired by fresh, seasonal ingredients and its bar staff creates innovative cocktails and serves a range of wines by the glass and draught beers, as well. The menu at Meat & Potatoes is a new take on basic. There are classic appetizers like fried pickles, grilled bread and fried Brussels sprouts, as well as more innovative fare like fried pigs ear and buttermilk fried chicken liver. Meat & Potatoes mains include pot roast, salmon and lamb neck cassoulet.

Vallozzi's started over 50 years ago when Helen Vallozzi was selling homemade pastas out of her home. Helen opened a take out restaurant in Latrobe, PA a few years later where her popularity exploded. In 1977, Ernie Vallozzi moved his mothers location to Greensburg where it is still open and operating today. In 2012 Ernie's son Julian expanded the tradition in to downtown Pittsburgh. Vallozzi's Pittsburgh has recently joined a mere 1,200 restaurants worldwide as a recipient of the Wine Spectator Magazine's Best of Award of Excellence and is the only Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh to receive such an honor.     My wife loved her scallops. The salmon was very creative and delicious. Potato soup was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly. They made sure we had time to get to our show. Would definitely recommend this establishment 👍👍

    Delicious food and superb service. A little loud and tight for my taste, but it is one of my favorites. So glad it’s on the Northside.

    I didn’t know Carmella’s had brunch! And now that I know, I will be back. It was busy, the food was good, and the service was excellent. I had the Carmella’s brunch plate with sausage, eggs, fruit and waffles. Fun and it was an excellent sampler of other things on the menu. We were going to a matinee at the City Theater so it was a great first stop.

    The menu isn't extremely long, but the food is creative and excellently prepared. We had a new version of their chicken dish and I had the burger which was off the menu. Both were excellent. We also had wedge salad and beef tartar, all worthwhile.
