We chose Basalt because of the positive reviews. We loved the location, it is toward the back of a deli-like area near the international market. Very cool. The restaurant itself is she and indoor/outdoor. Food was great service was excellent and the price was very reasonable. I'm shocked there wasn't a line out the door as it was superior to many higher priced restaurants and the Waikiki area.

The staff is friendly, the food is delicate and delicious, the value for money is good, the atmosphere is moody, and the location is excellent. I am sure this will be a place where you will not be able to get a reservation.

This restaurant should be on every foodie’s list. Every dish was perfect and the wine list is very good. Our group of five sampled the ahi cigars, the falafel fries, bone marrow with relish, the tag tagliatelle and he main course triple smoke salmon. We have never had salmon as perfectly cooked as this. Intense flavors from the smoking, perfectly rare salmon that slid onto the fork. We will return again and again. Definitely the best restaurant in Hawaii. Do not let the grubby atmosphere of Chinatown dissuade you from trying this restaurant. Especially if you are dining early, there is plenty of foot traffic, there are several busy restaurants close by and we did not feel at all uncomfortable walking from the restaurant to our car.
