La Fusta restaurant is designed after the classic style of similar restaurants in South America. The New Yorker opened in 1930 at the height of the Great Depression as the then largest hotel in the city. Beneath the hotel, a bank vault and offices were occupied by the Manufacturers Trust Company until 1980.
