Stripped-back Pan-Asian/Thai restaurant celebrating 10 years on Leather Lane, in Clerkenwell. Our name comes from the Thai word for ‘eat’. Our menu, though, are inspired by travels across South-East Asia and show cases street food dishes across the region, with a strong emphasis on Thai food. Chef Sebby Holmes launched Farang back in 2016 after trading at street food markets throughout London. A year later he took up temporary residency in Farang's current home in Highbury & Islington. After excellent reviews, he took on the space permanently after his step-father retired and since, has gone from strength to strength. Farang was recently inducted into the National Restaurant Awards top 100 and awarded a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, which we have kept four years running. We also received the Thai select award from the UK Thai Embassy which certifies authenticity and the freshness of our ingredients.We’re a young team of enthusiastic individuals, who over the last few years have bought our passion and skills to the table. Parties of six and larger, kindly contact the restaurant directly for reservations. In the Royal Lancaster Hotel, the Nipa Thai restaurant has been named after the original Nipa Restaurant in the Landmark Hotel in Bangkok. Lots of teak panelling, traditional Thai furnishings and artefacts lend an authentic air. All the staff dressed in traditional Thai costume are from Thailand - even the lady chefs. This authentic Thai restaurant is one of the first 15 recipients of the 'Thai Select' award - this award has been described as being the first ever Michelin-style award for Thai restaurants proven to be performing to the highest standards of quality and cuisine, and is awarded by the Thai Government. We think this award sums up Nipa Thai rather nicely. What's cooking? Kai Haw Bai Toey - deep fried marinated chicken in pandanus leaves, Kaeng Kiew Warn Kai - chicken in green curry soup, also recommended the Nipa platter - a selection of the chef's special Thai starters.

This is a great neighbourhood find. Nice ambience and good food. Service is friendly. The kitchen is unreasonably slow which let's the whole side down. It shouldn't take 30 minutes for starters to come or close to 20 for dessert. I'll come back for the food in the hope that this weakness will be rectified.

The distinctive flavours in every dish were memorable & in great combinations. The second batch of dishes (4/5 items) all came at once - which was a surprise - and would have been more appreciated spaced out. No taking away from the great tastes though!

They have recently changed their menu and there weren't as many choices as before, also it looks like a more generic Thai restaurant than the Thai fusion which we knew of. Still, the food was tasty and we are glad that the 'complicated noodles' were still there!
