In the 20th century times were simpler, dining out was reasonable, the service was excellent and cooking was an art. My staff and I have tried to capture that ambiance of simple elegance. Our traditional values extend even further: There are no heat lamps or microwaves in our kitchen. As much as I would love to leave a great review, I cannot. We had a 7:30 reservation, but did not get seated until 8:00. The restaurant was clearly overbooked. When dining at an upscale restaurant I expect some ambience and a relatively quiet, peaceful environment. This was absolutely not the case. It was extremely loud, over-crowded, and had the ambience of the food court at the local mall. The tables were packed in so tightly that patrons had difficulty getting in and out, and the servers struggled as well. We have been dining here on New Year’s Eve for a number of years and have seen a continual decline in the level of our experience. Originally, all tables were covered with nice tablecloths, a free glass of champagne was offered to patrons, tables were separated so that people could actually move around, and BREAD was served along with the meal without an extra charge PER PERSON! (A VERY MINOR “complaint” would include the <10 black-eyed peas that we had to hunt for! When I laughed about this to our server, they commented that the kitchen was being “stingy” with those tonight 😳). Clearly, the owner/management has become interested only in the bottom line…MONEY, rather than creating a special experience for their patrons. We will likely not be spending that much money on that type of experience in the future. The POSITIVE aspect of the night was that the food was very good.

Definitely my favorite restaurant here in Lubbock. Moved here a year and a half ago and have been to many. This one was my absolute favorite! I highly recommend!

Great experience. Table was available as promised. Well staffed. Professional service. Quality food that was presented with flair. Worth experiencing again and again.

Save your $$. Where do I start? Hostesses: no welcome just a stern look and a "yes?" when we walked in. Music: Nirvana "Smells like Teen Spirit" - very classy. Drink Order: ordered an Old fashioned ($15). See pic. Pic shows when it arrives. Hardly anything in the glass. Food: menu suggests ordering medium well due to "marbling". Took their advice and ended up with beef jerky. Sides: how about small cup of $13 cold "Spinach Rockefeller". No bread which is odd for a steakhouse. Server was nice - gets an extra star. $150 for two. NOT WORTH IT.

Outstanding experience. The food was absolutely amazing. The server was very attentive, friendly, informative about the menu, and made excellent suggestions. I would say this is the best restaurant in Lubbock. We are not drinkers and while they emphasize their alcoholic beverages, there was no pressure to order alcohol. It's a great restaurant for special occasions and they make you feel very welcome. You will leave Double Nickel feeling taken care of.
