We had a reservation for dinner at 5:30 PM and were seated immediately on arrival.
We ordered:
Mai Kaua'i Tai x 3
Chamisal Chardonnay x 2
Korean Sticky Ribs x 1
Panko-crusted Calamari x 1
Filet Mignon x 2
Seafood Risotto x 1
Baked Duke's Fish x 1
Kimo's Hula Pie x 1
Our meals and Duke's atmosphere were the highlights of our experience.
We booked for a sunset dinner and were not disappointed. We were seated outside with a great sunset view. The decor, ambiance, and atmosphere were wonderful. The tiki lights after sunset were great. With the outdoor seating, noise was minimal and we were able to chat comfortably. 5/5 for atmosphere.
Everything we ordered was spot on excellent. Every plate was wonderfully presented, and everything tasted great. Everything was "lick your plate" good. Two members of our group ordered the filet mignon "rare" and both were cooked to perfection. The risotto and baked fish were also both delicious. The chef definitely had their game on. We also shared a hula pie, and it was excellent. 5+++/5 for food.
Our drinks and service were unfortunately below par.
The Mai Kaua'i Tai are a solid pass. Three membersof our group ordered them, and two were tasted and basically set aside. The Chamisal Chardonnay was OK, nothing special. 0/5 for the drinks and 2 or 3/5 for the Chardonnay.
The service staff were excellent and brought our meals/drinks and cleaned up the table with courtesy, smiles, and some kind words. However, everyone agreed that our waiter was the lowest point of our evening. Our waiter looked bored, didn't seem to want to be there, didn't acknowledge most of what we said, spent most of the evening at the waiters' station chatting, and was not very personable. His service was adequate (as in he did the minimum of his job) with nothing more and a serious lack of Aloha. Service staff 5+/5, waiter 2/5.
