Michael Bong didn’t come to Japanese cooking along the obvious route – he’s Korean, for one – but now that he has, he’s certainly making the most of it. Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar on Little Malop Street in the centre of Geelong is a tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo, with a focus on the charcoal grill and the skewered mates that come off it. That results in top-notch pork belly, beef and chicken thighs for the meat-eaters and salmon, prawns and scallops for the fish fans as well as beancurd and vegetables for the vegetarians. Aside from the grill, there is also an astounding array of sushi and sashimi dishes, octopus pancake balls, salt and pepper squid, alongside dessert options and a long cocktail menu that befits all the best, boozy backstreet izakaya joints in Japan. Friendly staffs. All food was excellent. We had a private room which made us feel special. I've been here and I know I can recommend it to people and all my friends were happy. We will definitely come back.

We ordered the iska Fiesta Meal! And it was really yummy! The Pusit (squid) was very tender! Skewers excellent and chicken inasal very Juicy, serving on the meal was very Generous! The deep Fried pork and Lumpia very yummy and Crispy! Dipping sauce! Compliments the Food! Overall! Very yummy! And excellent! Chef and staffs are very accommodating! Will visit them for sure again when we go to Geelong! (From Queensland)

food was amazing, servings are big table was too small for our group of four, which made relaxing during the meal difficult. Also they were very understaffed, hence we had to wait around 25-30 mins just to receive our drinks. staff were lovely though and were trying their best
