Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls. In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. Great atmosphere. Attentive servers. They inquire about allergies. Good is superb. I really enjoyed their brussels sprouts (I usually find most awful-bitter and greasy). The edamame dumplings are unique and tasty. I go there often with large group and we are always pleased. Cocktails are on point too.

We came for brunch on an early Sunday AM with our two boys (10, 13) and had a wonderful time/food. Great service and really good menu for both adults and kids. This has become a go to place for us when we do periodic visits to the plaza. Thanks!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at McCormick & Schmick’s on a busy Friday night. We were seated promptly in a comfy booth. We always enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant with its lovely, backlit stained glass dome, beautiful deck/Asian inspired stain glass screen that separates the bar areas and the dining area, and large, Chihuly-like glass vases set on the second level surround. Even better than the ambiance, the food did not disappoint. We were both attracted to seafood pasta. My husband loved the scampi pasta and it looked decilious. I went on The Voyage - the lobster pasta plus a nicely made Caesar salad. Our seafood and pasta were perfectly cooked. If the pasta isn’t fresh, it comes very close and was a perfect al dente. Our server, Augustine, took great care of us without being intrusive. He made sure I liked anchovies when I ordered the Caesar (I do!) and kindly provided additional Parmesan cheese when we requested it. A great date night on the Plaza!
