Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls. In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients. Meg and Matt were friendly and accommodating-TJ was a great server. The food was delicious. I was a little disappointed in the bruschetta because it was not the same as it had been in past but the rest of the food was FABULOUS! We look forward to going back again.

The restaurant was very accommodating. The hostess checked on the sound level with us, honoring a request in my OpenTable notes. The server was attentive. Our reservation was at 5 o’clock…on the early end. We exited at 6:30, just as a rugby team was coming in. We hope they enjoyed their time as much as we did!😊

The food is always well prepared and delivered to the table steaming hot when it is supposed to be steaming hot. The servers are kind, knowledgeable and efficient. The vibe is lively and laid back, but can get a little noisy at peak times since the tables are close together. There is a small back room that can seat a group of perhaps 8-10 and provides nice privacy. The patio has heat lamps and is comfortable through most of 3 seasons. Definitely an urban atmosphere with a sort of old school, vintage feel but with absolutely current food choices.
