Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. We had an amazing experience. Our servers Gaby and Stephanie were exceptional and very professional. Their knowledge of the food and drinks were impeccable. They made our Christmas Eve dining experience very memorable and enjoyable.

We sat by the window for a beautiful winter view. Our server, Miguel, was very polite, personable and attentive. He also took a bunch of photos for us at the end- very helpful. Food was delicious and my meal (salmon entree) felt well-balanced. Castle owner, Gary, visited our table and that of the other guests, which was cool to be able to converse and learn a little more about the castle. All the workers seemed to know him, so that seemed like a positive, too. They also gave my daughter a coloring book, crayons, and a yummy package of mini cookies to take home. Only negative was that the fire alarm went off during meal, which startled us. Then we were informed that happens sometimes because the castle's fire monitoring system is sensitive. It turned off after about 15 seconds. Overall, we had a really nice time and plan to go back.
