Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. MUA is known for its open atmosphere, eclectic décor, art events and, of course, its delicious food. Ideal for large parties or intimate gatherings, the spacious dining room creates a relaxed, casual vibe for guests to enjoy their meals. A large selection of wines, cocktails and beers make MUA a great spot for an evening out with friends. Family owned and run Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in what was then Auto Row in Oakland, in 2008. After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland. Today you’ll find people of all ages and backgrounds, from Too Short to Jerry Brown.

    delicious! we had a 7:30 reservation and didn’t get seated until 7:50, but after that everything went very smoothly. food came out quickly and was delicious!

    I've been to Yoshi's many times, but this was my first time dining in the restaurant. The service was great. Our server, Robin, was outstanding. The food was great as well. I had the Kuro Ninniku Angus Ribeye, and my wife had the Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon. We also enjoyed the Snow Monkey Sushi Rolls. It was a great experience overall!

    The food was FABULOUS!!! We had the Oxtails (A++), the Red Snapper (A+++) Service was personal and thoughtful!

    Who knew Oakland goes off like this? Incredible open space in what I assume is a converted warehouse. I sat upstairs, overlooking the main dining area, which was perfect. Really diverse crowd, fantastic set list by the DJ, great overall energy. Shared the Caesar salad to start, which frankly could have been half the size (it was two full romaine hearts) and the 1lb Ribeye with fries. Finished with the bread pudding. That was more than enough. Great service. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added, which I was fine with, but just beware so you don't double-tip.

    Lots of great food + drink choices, so everyone's happy. The service was fabulous. A bit on the noisy side, but we would definitely go here again.
