Ajanta has been voted best Indian restaurant in the entire San Francisco Bay Area by Zagat Guide from 2009-2014. We were also voted best Indian restaurant in the Bay Area A-List contest from 2009-2011 and 2013. In addition, we have received top reviews in several publications, including the East Bay Express, Diablo Magazine, and the Contra Costa Times. What a gem! Excellent service, calm ambiance allowed the dining experience to shine. The food was presented so beautifully and simply that the dining experience was a treat.

Everything we ate was delicious. The Beet Salad was well dressed and plentiful for two. The Short Ribs were tender and tasty - great comfort dish! The Lamb Kebabs and Couscous are my “go to favorite”. The Baklava w/Vanilla Ice Cream was “the right way to end a fantastic meal”! Our server was attentive (checked in on us regularly) and efficient. Wonderful dining experience!

We had a choice to sit outside or inside - I think either would have been lovely but we chose outside and sat around the fire table - between the fire table, heat lamp and cozy blankets, the temperature was perfect even on a somewhat chilly night and you could not beat the wonderful atmosphere. It was our first time here but will not be the last.
