The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s. Today, the Grain House is a renowned restaurant in North/Central New Jersey, with a comfortable, casual ambiance. The restaurant serves innovative, traditional and contemporary interpretations of American cuisine with some added international accents, prepared under the direction of Executive Chef John Benjamin. Scalini Fedeli was opened by chef-owner Michael Cetrulo in 1995 and very quickly became New Jersey's highest rated Italian restaurant. Rated excellent by the New York Times in 1996 and New Jersey's favorite restaurant in Zagat's Survey in 2001 and New Jersey Monthly's best Italian and top 25 overall in 2007. Highlights from the menu include soft egg yolk raviolo with black truffle butter, pignoli crusted salmon with artichoke and mint agnolotti in a light tomato and basil broth and braised short ribs of beef with a cherry pepper and port glaze. Set in an historic building built in 1740, the atmosphere is slightly formal with Tuscan style vaulted ceilings finished with Venetian plaster. Tapestry and antique mirrors adorn the walls.

Warm welcome by the owner and staff, impeccable service throughout and excellent food! This was my second visit and I enjoyed even more. The menu is interesting and creative including the desserts. My pork chop was amazing as well as the pistachio creme brûlée. The rest of my party also loved their choices. Will definitely become a regular here.

The food is consistently good at Water and Wine, and we were so happy to see the lunch price fixe menu back! Our server was excellent - I wish I knew her name!!

I was hesitant at first with this being attached to a hotel, but the food was exquisite--perfect for a date night or an above average cost for dinner. The burrata was out of this world and the lobster roll had a hidden mayo/lemon combo that had me tossing up my hands with excitement. My wife had the Salmon over a pumpkin and curry squash that was EASILY the star of the show. We both left planning for when we could make the drive back for another meal. Highly recommended.
