The Local Cafe and Restaurant was created to offer experiential learning opportunities for our students. The Local is located on Centennial College, Progress Campus. At The Local, the hospitality, culinary and baking students learn in the restaurant as part of their embedded courses as well as their field placement's under the direction of our Faculty, Chef and Restaurant Technicians. Our menus are inspired by the flavour profiles that represent the incredibly rich diversity of those who call Scarborough home. While sourcing local ingredients from within Ontario, we are proud to provide our students with the opportunity to develop the skills that hospitality employers demand.

Opened in 2017. Michelin-recommended since 2022.We first imagined Aloette to be the perfect diner that we’d want to dine in – a menu with a great cheeseburger paired with a fantastic and fun wine list, a long row of bar stools facing the bar and the kitchen, and an energetic atmosphere accented with an old school hip hop playlist. The buzz of the dining room mirrors the energy of the street on Spadina Avenue; the dining room itself mimics a train’s dining car. It’s a bistro-meets-diner-meets-internationally-inspired menu which is also representative of the diverse culture in Toronto. Our service team is upbeat and genuine but also deeply knowledgeable about the menu and offerings. Brunch at Aloette was something we said we’d never do. But the city kept asking and we’re glad to be a new staple in the Queen West neighbourhood for mimosas, chicken and waffles, and piping hot coffees. Servers were diligent, conscientious and energetic. If anything they were over attentive but that is totally understandable and appreciated. Food was expertly and perfectly prepared.

This happening stylish bistro is worth visiting. Ambience is cozy and food and service were top notch. Nice variety of small and main plates to share and enjoy. Wedge salad is a must to try and the complimentary cheddar brioche was a nice (& delicious) start to our meal.

it is a bit noisy - energetic is good but when you have to shout to be heard it gets a bit frustrating. Everything else other than that is outstanding.
