We’re proud to say that Brighton was the second ever Bill’s, and whilst it’s no longer a bus depot (spoiler, it used to be a bus depot), it still transports you to the good times. Oh, and it’s only up the road from the seafront, so there’s no excuse to miss it, even if you get lost in the Lanes.

In 1976 Michael Garman returned to Brighton and opened IL Bistroafter being inspired by the Italian and French culture and cuisineduring his travels to the Provence and the western coast of Italy.His goal was to open Brighton’s first Mediterranean steakhouse.For the first time, Brightonians were able to order fresh pasta,arancini, dry aged beef, tiramisu and negronis.47 years later and now being operated by Michael's son Abe,IL Bistro still stands by the same principles, using local suppliersand produce, fresh ingredients and the best available dryaged British beef. The restaurant is situated in an 18th centuryfisherman’s cottage which we find rather fitting after Michaelspent years in Portofino, Livorno and Saint-Tropez, Europe’smost famous fishing villages.Booking info:Since reopening from covid we ask for a £10 per person deposit in our busier times which gets deducted from your bill at the end of your meal. We have eaten here over years and years, hardly anything has changed- the food is excellent in taste and quantity, the service staff are always polite and fun, the food is always provided promptly. We will always come here when in Brighton.

It was a wonderful evening and the food and service fantastic . The only disappointment came from my 18 yo daughter , her friend and my son who is older were ID checked and because they didn’t have their passports or any ID with them , they were refused wine with their meal and any drinks which slightly changed the celebratory occasion. We don’t normally drink but on a special night out we would not have expected to have this to have been refused. I belive that they should tell diners when booking g that without ID they will be refused alcohol . Never has this ever happened before in my life time of dining out with my family. I am 56 and my husband 66 so it was a shock.

Great place for a business lunch. The steak and chips was perfect, coffee, perfect, all round perfect. I'll be back.

Such a friendly atmosphere - the staff are delightful. Portions are generous and just right for a Sunday lunch. Will definitely go again!
