Located in the Corktown neighborhood of Detroit, TAKOI is known for modern Thai cooking accented with Michigan seasonality, a DIY mentality, and a penchant for local food production. As a core pillar of our mission, TAKOI operates HiO Farm which is located just a mile north of the restaurant. During the height of farm season, the restaurant highlights dishes prepared with HiO produce utilizing the techniques and flavors inspired by Thailand and beyond. TAKOI, originally KATOI, began as a food truck in 2014, evolved into an Ann Arbor pop-up, and landed as a proper restaurant at 2520 Michigan Avenue in March of 2016. After being open for 11 months, having a slew of fun, and garnering a handful of awards — including a James Beard 'Best New Restaurant' nomination— KATOI was brought back down to earth when it was subjected to arson in February 2017. The day after the fire, the rebuild began, and we opened as TAKOI exactly six months later in August 2017.

Opened on December 13, 2014 (yes, 12/13/14!) in a historic building at the corner of Woodward and Canfield. The Huma Room on the second floor features half of a black 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood mounted behind the wall and an outdoor patio.     My friend and I went there for the ornament painting experience and had a great time! The food was okay, I’ll just have to order something different next time but everything is fun and festive. My only suggestion would be to play some Christmas music since it’s Christmas themed.

    We really enjoyed the vegetarian meal everything was absolutely delicious especially the unique use of spices. Our waiter was excellent. Parking was the only issue, but we found a place to park.

    It was a great experience overall! The food quality and serving sides were fantastic. The environment was great...the waitstaff was attentive and helpful. Slightly on the pricey side, but certainly not unreasonable...definitely reasonable for the value and portions. We loved it!

    Server Jenny was very good and very friendly! It was pretty busy but she took care of us. She also acknowledged my twin daughters birthday. The food was very good and the selection was great. We all got different things and everyone commented on their food as being tasty! We meet in Royal Oak for family events as it's halfway between us all so we will be back.
