Johnny’s Downtown, opened in 1993, is similar to the original Johnny’s Bar on Fulton Road, featuring pasta, veal and fish. The setting, a refurbished 1860’s Warehouse District building, formerly a general store, is the drinking and dining spot of locals and business people alike. We always get the tasting with wine pairings. It is always quite good, can’t help but wish they would do something more innovative with the main course thought….its always beef, well cooked but boring and doesn’t hold up to the other courses.

This is the model for a great seafood restaurant… came here serendipitously two years ago not expecting anything.. was shocked a restaurant this good could be so far from an ocean. Returned today… hoping it was still great. It is. The staff greeted us warmly as if we were well-liked regulars. The atmosphere softly lit, with every table full, yet without feeling over-crowded. The menu just right… all the favorites.. with nice touches and specials… all fresh. Dessert offerings were solid… and maybe that best describes this restaurant… a solid 9 out of 10. It would hold its own in Manhattan, Miami Beach , Boston or LA.

Always have a lovely experience here, and this was no different. I had the Gloppy-themed drink and the hoisin tofu bao buns, both delicious. Also recommend trying the current menu’s board game, my date and I had a good time :)
