Popoca means “to emit smoke” in Nawat, the language of native people of El Salvador who stoked wood fires to prepare food over a comal for their families. Revered as more than just a means of cooking, smoke represents a prayer or offering to the spirits.Popoca is a mix of heritage and play. Family owned and run Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in what was then Auto Row in Oakland, in 2008. We come regularly to enjoy our 5* experiences. This time I would say six stars ... as I studied the menu before. My favorite choices (yours maybe a different choice) were beyond expectation, outstanding. Did I say we'll come back? Okay you want to know something not so positive: Teleferic Los Gatos should consider the lightning one space is dark compared to the other. By the way the service is great: thank you Sheila S.

Showed up a little early for our reservation and was seated right away. Service was excellent - very fast. Food was also excellent! Great first time experience at Pippal.

Amazing food, terrific waiter. Frustrated that although we booked standard tables they insisted on seating us at a high table which didn’t work for my elderly parents. The low tables remained open until 5 minutes before we left. Not great.
