Grünauer offers a classic Viennese gasthaus menu in the beautiful, historic Freighthouse. Located just north of Union Station in KC's premier dining and arts neighborhood- The Crossroads, Grünauer has been serving authentic Austrian and Central European cuisine since 2010 (with a focus on German and Hungarian as well). A beautiful biergarten, a gorgeous full bar and a lofted event space all add to the ambience and character of this KC classic. Make your reservation today! Classic dishes such as Hungarian beef gulasch (goulash), wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and more are always available. Absolute YES. From the selection of food menu items, the various assortment of delicious libations and the courteous, attentive staff, you will be completely satisfied with your dining experience. I have been here multiple times. Today was special as my good friends took myself and my husband out for our dual birthday lunches. Everyone ordered a different menu item and the meals were shared amongst the four of us so that everyone had the opportunity to sample the delicious offerings. My friends had never been there before and are now looking forward to the next opportunity. ☺️

Sadly, the food appeared not to have the touch of an executive chef. The gulyas was certainly not Hungarian and not even Austrian. The klopse was bland. The spinach, however, was delicious. The strudel was not a strudel.

The four of us agreed that the meal was one of the best we have ever had! We also had dessert, which was just the right size for two to share. Was quiet enough that we could visit easily with friends. Will definitely fo again!

Did not like meal. Sauerbraten was tender but had to mix the sauce with the spaetzela to tamp down the strong flavor. Pricey too. But portion was large and waiter was excellent

Food was excellent. Service was efficient, but maybe a bit indifferent. I don't know anything about Austrian wines, so I would hope for a little guidance in selecting a bottle. But there was very little forthcoming from out waiter. But overall, it was a nice dinner. Goulash, spaetzle, and weinerschnitzel were standouts. And the cheese strudel for dessert.

KC has a lot to offer in restaurants but you won’t find any other like this one! The menu changes every few months and the variety is wide for any taste buds. We love the atmosphere and the presentation of the foods. I can tell the servers like it here too as we often get the same ones for years now.
