Havana has been committed to serving local and organic meats, produce and seafood since it opened 25 years ago. All of our meats are “naturally raised” meaning no steroids, antibiotics or hormones and “humanely raised” meaning room to roam, proper shelter and gentle handling. We make every effort to buy only sustainably harvested seafood, primarily from the Gulf of Maine. We have consistently searched out New England farmers and fisherfolk to purchase product that is not only great tasting but great for the environment and local economy as well.

                                                              The best meal I have had in a very long time. Everything we ordered—salad, mussels, paella, pescado, crème brûlée—was attractive, flavorful, and clearly made with fine ingredients. Our server, Jessica, was professional, pleasant, and attentive. Her recommendation of a no-alcohol mojito for this non-drinker was much appreciated. The area in which we were seated was windowless and a bit cramped. And the tiny candle at the table didn’t help brighten things. But the quality of the food outweighed all.

                                                              Just opening for its 27th year in mid-April, 2025, Havana was already ahead of the seasonal restaurant scene in Bar Harbor. A revamped menu has wonderful choices - and we sampled each course. Breads & Spreads: Accompanying baguette and blueberry cornbread were served with tasty black bean hummus, a flavorful olio de olive and a maple butter that all melded well for a variety of unique tastes. Apps: The Pulpa (Octopus) App and MDI Blondes (Oysters) were clean, fresh and prepared to perfection. Mains: The Pollo (Chicken dish) with a tomato-based sauce was very good. The Seafood Paella was off-the-charts spectacular. Scallops, Mussells, Shrimp and Lobster went together swimmingly. Drinks: An n/a Athletic IPA and n/a Mojito are appreciated, as was the regular Mojito for my partner. The n/a version of the Mojito was the best I'd ever had. It's not a standard simple (sugary) syrup and invites the N/A crowd to an inclusive course of drinks. Desserts: A Horchata Tres Leches cake with a crumb topping and blueberries and an Affogato to wake up the mind and savor the experience. Service: Owner Michael and his entire Staff are inviting/welcoming and always attentive. Our server, Jessica, was very knowledgeable of the menu, aware of the pairings and made the best suggestions. It's going to be a very successful summer for Havana and we cannot wait to return soon.
