Visiting with our of state family this gathering was a pre holiday celebration. Having had many a party at the ho-How-Kus ( graduations, retirement, birthday and anniversary party’s and many many business meetings ) we are familiar with each dining room. It was important for this dinner , a dinner with our sister who struggles with dementia , to be special and quiet. When I made the reservations I was specific to request the library… instead we were seated in the active, loud sports bar! Impossible to hear each other and when asked to be rested we were denied. Mind you, service was FABULOUS, dinner ( overpriced) but perfectly executed halibut, flakey and moist - The Ho-Ho-Kus Inn for 30 years has been the backdrop for so many fun events , it never dawned on us that the emotional gathering couldn’t be accommodated in the serenity of the Library despite a reservation made weeks ago.

They know our favorite table in the Tavern, & had it reserved it for us even though I forgot to request! The fig & arugula pizza & pie mussels are always our favorites! Winnie is always so kind to us, and Nor makes us feel so welcome:)

A historical dining experience in a tavern dating from 1790. Service was excellent as was the food. It is a pricier location. 2 burgers and 2 glasses of wine came up to $75.00 before tip.

Nothing has changed since the pandemic, the restaurant hasn’t reached the level it was before the pandemic. In 2019 it was great. Things changed in late 2020 (understandable). But since then it’s the same tired menu. Plus the waitstaff could use a refresher course on how to wait on customers.
