J. Gilbert's is an "upscale casual" steakhouse serving prime-aged beef cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill. Guests enjoy various cuts of steak, fresh seafood (including award-winning crab cakes) & other house made favorites like the Maytag Blue potato chips & chocolate velvet cake. The cozy atmosphere includes fire side dining, rich wood, brick & soft lighting where you can enjoy dinner for two or host a large party. The extensive martini & wine list offers the perfect compliment to an excellent meal delivered with attentive service. Reservations are highly recommended.

    The food is very good. We had apps at the bar. Disappointed that the sliders are still off the menu and the calamari is not as good as it was before the menu change last year. Dinner is good and steaks include 2 sides which is a good value. One thing that I want to mention. We had purchased gift cards around the holidays and received an additional $20 card to use with a food purchase over $20. Because we ordered the steak and seafood special that was offered last night, when we went to pay the check we were told we could not use the $20 extra gift card because the steak and seafood plate was a special. I understand that is one of the conditions with the card, however, when you order three of those entrees, along with desserts and coffees, and the check is $200, we were surprised that we could not use the card. So I expect it will go to waste and will make us rethink buying cards in the future. There are a few other places that offer similar specials when buying gift cards during the holiday time, and they have almost no restrictions on using their card other than using it for food versus drinks. Not sure why JGilbert is so restrictive with their cards.

    This is one of my favorite restaurants and this may have been our best experience here yet. The food is fantastic. The steak is always cooked perfectly, it melts in your mouth like butter. This time our waiter was Don, and I credit Don with making our experience more enjoyable. My wife and I have not been out since before our son was born and this night not only signified that, but it was her birthday celebration. Don was a great waiter, perfect balance of checking in on us but not overbearing. He ensured our evening was perfect. Great food, great service. We will back!

    Before coming here I heard they had great steaks/food. I also read it was ranked as a top steakhouse in CT. Expectations were met. I would highly recommend. The steaks were perfectly cooked. Our waitress was also great. She explained the menu, all the way down to the different butters, kept our drinks full, and even though we didn’t order desert brought a nice treat with a birthday candle. It was very nice and great customer service.

    Absolutely wonderful every time! We have never had a bad meal at J Gilbert’s. The staff is very knowledgeable, establishment is clean and food is amazing! Highly recommend adding on a crab cake with your entree.
