Located in historic Gastown between Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley, built in the 19th century on the site of Vancouver's first jail and originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building combining classic French tile work with industrial fixtures and natural wood, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge, elevated dining room and a plush, light soaked atrium as well as private dining rooms. Chef/Owner Lee Cooper is dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating & drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. Service is expertly orchestrated to be unpretentious yet refined. The French-influenced West Coast fare is paired with the eclectic wine program and the bar team's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

    Experience L'Abattoir's Avant-Première three course menu featuring a choice of two starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts. Reservations are only available before 6pm and are limited to 2 hours so that guests can enjoy an indulgent dinner before continuing on with their evening of entertainment, whether it be the theatre, a concert, a sporting event or other plans later in the evening. Visit labattoir.ca to view the current Avant-Première menu. No payment is required upon booking, the menu cost of $80 plus tax and gratuity which are due at the restaurant. We request a credit card number to confirm all reservations, a $50 charge per person will be applied in the case of a cancellation or “no-show” within 24 hours of the reservation.

    This is one of my favorite restaurants in Gastown, so I looked forward to showing my SIL this place. As my SIL was still recovering from a bout of diverticulitis, I didn’t order a bottle of wine. I had two wines by the glass, and we shared a few dishes. We started with their fabulous bread service, then a Dungeness Crab salad, an Artichoke tart and their Terrine of Fois Gras. Our “main” was their Agnolotti. I had a glass of 2022 Garnier et Fils Chablis with the salads and a glass of 2016 Synchromesh Pinot Noir from Storm Haven Vineyard in Okanagan Falls, BC with foie gras and agnolotti. The Artichoke Tart was half salad, half egg custard tart with pieces of artichoke between the two. It was a light, refreshing dish. The Dungeness Crab Salad was a visual surprise … the crab was placed between thin slices of radish and decorated with green leaves. It was interesting; perhaps a little too subtle in flavor for me. The foie gras terrine came with two thick pieces of brioche. The square of terrine was decorated with squares of wine jelly, and cherry halves. The terrine was soft and silky and the brioche so buttery. The star of the evening was the Sweet Corn Agnolotti. Pillows of mascarpone pasta were covered with pieces of sweet corn and a generous helping of sliced black truffle. This dish was “to die for” and I wanted to order a second plate. I love the food at L’Abattoir and dine here every time I come to Vancouver.

    A great night out and the food was delicious. Shout out to the Sommelier who did an outstanding job! Very happy we made this our special night in Vancouver.

    The restaurant is a beautiful space in the heart of Gastown. The food and service are outstanding. We ordered off the a la carte menu and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Next time we will do the chef’s tasting menu.

    I can not recommend the tasting menu with LOCAL wine pairings highly enough. A RARE treat and one of top 5 personal dining experiences on a list that begins with The Herb Farm 100 mile dinner. GREAT JOB, L'Abattoir team.

    This place has been a favorite for years but it has become far too expensive for the experience. Food is excellent but not for the price and the portions are very small. It's too bad cause, we've always enjoyed going here.

    We were so looking forward to this restaurant but it didn’t live up to the ratings. Appetizers were average. Dinner was good but compared to our other reservations it was average. Decor was sad and dated. On a positive note, cocktails were great!

    Absolutely stupendous in every way. Every dish was perfectly executed art on a plate. 10/10 service and atmosphere.

    This was absolutely the best. We chose the chef menu, but didn’t do the wine paring (chose our own as we wanted) It was a nine course menu and each serving was better and better! Fun attentive staff gave birthday candles on the dessert to help us celebrate! Highly recommended!
