At first glance, you might think the name of Rouj Creole is misspelled. Besides “rouj” instead of “roux,” a quick scan of the new restaurant’s menu shows the word “gonbo” where you’d expect to find “gumbo.”But owner Stephen Hightower isn’t a bad speller. He’s just bringing Baton Rouge a taste of Creole cuisine—complete with the authentic Haitian Creole spelling of traditional dishes.

    Evan, our server was excellent and attentive to our requests. We came specifically for the salad bar and the lobster bisque, not knowing they don’t serve the lobster bisque at lunch. Evan as well as the host went back to the kitchen and made sure we got the bisque we came for! Phenomenal service and attitude towards customer satisfaction. Well done!

    Dinner was spectacular and the service was on-point. Soup was fabulous and the homemade pasta was so flavorful. Met the new owner. They are so excited and passionate about this venture! Menu and quality of food and service remains above par with the new generation of Nino’s!

    Our waitress was awesome she made sure we had everything we needed and that everything was good. She made sure our drinks were filled every time before we could ask.
