From July 1st, 1957, there had been two owners of Pates, Cloyde Pate followed by the Gardner family of Chatham. Mr. Pate opened the doors to what would soon become one of Cape Cod’s most beloved restaurants. Once a cozy hamburger and ice cream stand, Pates grew to be a place of celebration, camaraderie, and community. From the bonds staff made during countless summer seasons, to the engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings, Pates has been a backdrop for exceptional moments and people.     Menu was extensive, cocktails were creative, food was excellent, and prices mostly very reasonable. Tuna cone small plate was a hit! A little loud in there but overall a great dinner, we’ll definitely be back!

    Delightful! As locals here for the first time, we had heard that it was noisy and out-of-this-world expensive. We found neither to be true. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, the pace of service, and our server Amy was excellent.

    Our New Year's Day lunch was wonderful. We were seated in the sunny front of the tavern and had the most exceptionally pleasant server. My friend's quiche and salad was described as very good and my fish and chips confirmed my choice was on-point. The french fries are the best. Only downside was, when first seated the restaurant wasn't nearly full and the noise level was very high. By the time we left, most tables were filled, so the noise was understandable at that stage. Still, this could be my new favorite eatery in Chatham.
