From building society, to bank, to BEAR – this ornate old banking hall site on Derby’s Iron Gate stood empty and forgotten for 9 long years… until we came along.BEAR Iron Gate, Derby sits slap-bang in the centre of the city’s iconic and beautiful Cathedral Quarter; the original hotspot for high-quality food and drink. Opening in 2017 following the success of our Uttoxeter store, the progression to Derby seemed natural for BEAR, as our two founders spent a lot of time in the city as teens, so they have loads of fun memories attached to the place.

Exciting times here at The Dovecote, we are having a refurbishment!This affects reservations made between 17th Feb and 7th March, Opening hours will remain the same, however we will be moving the restaurant into our Granary Loft function suite while we carry out the works. From walking in to leaving the whole afternoon was beautiful. We’ve been meaning to come here for a few years after hearing many good things and we weren’t disappointed, the staff were so friendly and attentive, and the quality of the food was stunning. I think we’ll be coming here for our special occasions more often!

We both really enjoyed the tapas. Food came all together and was excellent we doned at 12;30 and were the only ones upstairs in the restaurant, so speedy and excellent service from Sophie. More diners came as we finished. Would highly recommend and we will be back. Thank you.
