Judith is a new American tavern pairing warm hospitality and the cooking of James Beard Nominated Chef Julia Sullivan (Henrietta Red in Nashville) located in the quiet area of Sewanee, TN near the University of the South. The name is an homage to Judith Ward Lineback, the first woman to matriculate into the University in 1969.As Sullivan’s first solo project, Judith will feature a seasonal menu of creative and approachable dishes including a selection of small, shareable plates perfect for the bar crowd. The beverage program mirrors the food with accessible wines and a cocktail list created by Henrietta Red's Beverage Manager Patrick Halloran.The warehouse-style building, previously the Old Steam Laundry which serviced the University since the 1950’s, has additional space for private dining and parties. With the goal of becoming a meeting place for students, faculty, tourists and the Sewanee community alike, the restaurant will be open for dinner from Thursday - Monday.

Several years ago, I decided that my future in the restaurant business would most likely not remain in the realm of fine dining and gourmands, but would rather lean towards the style of restaurant that I found myself frequenting most often - places that provided consistency and quality at a price that was fair for the quality of the food and experience. Public House plays to the comforts of good, solid food, while applying the principles of premium food products to a more casual setting. You will find all the fish is delivered from Foley’s in Boston, high quality steaks and a rotating selection of vegetable sides that are true to the region and season. Exceptional food and service. Great wine and whiskey list as well. Patio, main dining room and Social Club bar side as well as private rooms. No wonder this is a Chattanoogan institution!

The service was excellent. Our server, Conner, took very good care of us and was extremely personable. We never felt rushed. The food was delicious and portion sizes were perfect. Will return often!!

Our experience was great start to finish. We were seated promptly and Chloe our server took great care of us. We got our food quickly and it was delicious. The shrimp and grits is some of the best we’ve had anywhere, and the seared tuna salad was beautifully presented and tasted so good. Stir is our favorite place to eat in Chattanooga.

The server was very attentive. She was very knowledgeable about the food. The food was phonemail. The lump crab cake was full of large pieces of crab in every bit. The crab bisque was amazing with flavor. The filett Oscar was perfectly balanced. I would definitely go again when we are in town.
