Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. This was our first visit to Hayward. We did the kick back menu option for a chef’s choice 5 course meal and it was amazing. Every dish was excellent and had unique flavors. The ambiance was elevated casual and the service was outstanding. We can’t wait to come back next season to try new menu items. Thank you so much!

This was an intimate wedding reception dinner truly hosted by Debra! From beginning to end the Bistro’s staff ensured each diner - ranging from 4 to 72 in age - was always satisfied with food and drink. Debra orchestrated everything from arrival charcuterie followed by simple salad then individual entrees. Needing extraordinary compliments was having pomme frites in front of the 4 year old seemingly within minutes of seating. Each course was delicious with special ‘shout out’ to the roasted dates, gravlax salmon and strawberry pavlova at dessert. A very memorable evening of good food, great hospitality and special family memories.

Came for Thanksgiving dinner. We both had the prix fixe and everything was fantastic. The details of each dish were not lost and the flavor profiles were festive without being over indulgent. Emma was our gracious host and very accommodating. Being our first time to Meridian it couldn’t have been more perfect. We’ll be back!
