The Griswold Inn is an inn and restaurant located in the historic seaport village of Essex. The Gris, as it is affectionately known, has been in continous operation since 1776.`Currently we are offering dine in, dine out, and Gris To Go! Inside, guests may enjoy dining in historic, art-filled rooms which exude character, charm and tradition. Seating for the alfresco experience is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the exception of larger parties of 7 or more which may be made by calling 860.767.1776. The Inn boasts a wine list consistently recognized by Wine Spectator with the prestigious Award of Excellence; Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure have recently recognized the Inn's restaurant as "Connecticut's coziest" and it is included in Patricia Schulz's "1000 Places to See Before You Die".     Wonderful experience, lovely table near the fireplace as requested, although unfortunately they were unable to start the fireplace on a very cold night. But it still had great atmosphere and wonderful ambiance. Our waitress Lauren was great, very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and I would highly recommend the lobster fried rice! We’ve been there many times before when we’ve had tickets for a show at The Kate and we will definitely go back again!

    Excellent raw oysters, and the fried oysters were fabulous. We went at happy hour, so a great value. Liv's $5 white wine selection during HH was very good. Low noise level because not many people there as early as we were; I've been there before when the dining room is full, and it can be noisy. Our waiter was knowledgeable and available whenever we needed him.

    Our late lunch early dinner was fabulous on New Year's Day 2025. Our waitress, Barbara, was very friendly, energetic, helpful and wonderfully nice-she gets all the kudos for a great visit. We will definitely return to Fresh Salt.
