Midwest Italian restaurant focusing on house made pastas, utilizing vegetables from Chef Joe Frillman’s family farm. Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles. We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect. Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag.     Our server never rushed us, but checked in on us as needed. We had delicious paella and savored a long meal. We appreciated that they let us stay for a long time without rushing us out.

    Maya Del Sol has absolutely become our most favorite restaurant. The food is interesting, delicious and always piping hot. The servers understand the need to be GF and know the menu well in that regard and I’m grateful that in addition to knowing the GF details alert the kitchen on my behalf. I love that there are different price points from $30 entrees to many options in the $20’s. All of the wait staff and bussers are friendly and attentive. They always check back in after the food has been served!

    First time going...Was a little hesitant about going because of the area, but I will say the greeting was marvelous...that young man showed excellent customer service skills from the time you walk in and over all while you are there...the waitress was very attentive as well...once our time was up we moved to the bar and continued to have drinks and chat with the friendly staff....everything was great I must say...definitely glad I supported this establishment.
