The White Oak Tavern is a family-owned business, operated by a brother & sister that are Ellicott City locals. They married and began to envision that someday they would open a restaurant of their own. The restaurant’s first business plan was written at their dining room table on an electric typewriter. In 1988 Linwoods opened its doors, and it has been a labour of love for more than thirty years. Linwoods’ cuisine consists of the freshest ingredients, and inventive preparation. Great spot for casual dinner or special meal. The menu is varied without rambling and the specials are always worth a look. Really good salads and nice array of apps. They still serve bread upon request and the bar is well stocked. The waitstaff is attentive and informed but don’t loom or push. It’s just a reliable place for a good evening out.

This is our second visit. The food was good but ordered the same meal and not as good as the first time. It was very salty. Others said their food was salty as well. The appetizers were good. Restaurant was busy but the service was fine. We will try again as maybe it was an off night.

This is a wonderful place to gather for a special occasion because it has spacious seating with a lovely view and festive decorations. The food is always delicious.
