This is where it all started – on the banks of the Rappahannock River overlooking where we grow our oysters. Le Yaca began in 1964 in Courchevel, a tiny, country village in the French Alps. Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans, they told the hopeful restaurateurs they were crazy to think people would drive eight kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner. Daniele and Gerard hesitated for three months and then decided, “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “il n’y a qu’a le faire,” which basically means, “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag, but the name caught on with customers who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States and opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg. Daniel Abid bought Le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge," and to top it all off, “Alain Ducass

    Ever since we found Le Yaca a year ago on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, they earned a place on our “must do” lists. The service is impeccable - the food perfectly prepared - somehow managing to be imaginative and classic at the same time. The restaurant is beautiful as well. Cocktails were generous and the prix fixe menu will give you pause, with all the incredible options. Also of note: every single staff person seemed genuinely pleased to have us as guests. Smiles, greetings, and thanks made us feel welcomed into a place they were proud to represent.

    OMG! If you even like American history a little bit, this is a life lister! Great atmosphere, great food, and everything is authentic even the candle lit dining room. This place is a must

    We tried two of the lunch specials - Chicken BLT and the Chicken BLT Flatbread as well as the Mushroom Soup. Everything was delicious. Service was quick although the restaurant was quite busy for a Monday lunch! We will definitely be back again.

    With the exception of the gentleman at the checkin desk, everything about the restaurant was professional and first class. Our waitress was adorable, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was delicious: short ribs, halibut, truffle risotto, pumpkin creme brulee, drinks, etc. The atmosphere was really nice with tables NOT crowded, easy to have a conversation, and lovely decor.
