Located in Oakland’s historic Grand Lake District, Bardo is a neighborhood lounge and restaurant inspired by the comfort and camaraderie of a mid-century dinner party. Drawing on the celebration and elegance of old school entertaining, we envisioned a space for friends and neighbors to enjoy amazing food, cocktails, conversation and great music. Our lounge is a swank living room, furnished with hand-picked finds from antique and vintage markets from Palm Springs to Portland. Our mezzanine dining room features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal supper-fare with local and sustainably sourced meats, fish and produce. While we think the food, drinks and atmosphere are all great reasons to visit us, it’s the relationships with our friends, neighbors and guests that is the driving force behind Bardo.

Popoca is a Salvadoran-inspired restaurant in the heart of Oakland. Popoca means “to emit smoke” in Nawat, the language of native people of El Salvador who stoked wood fires to prepare food over a comal for their families. Revered as more than just a means of cooking, smoke represents a prayer or offering to the spirits.Popoca is a mix of heritage and play. Our food is driven by preserving past, creating something new and uniquely Oakland. After years of pop-ups, Popoca has its own digs in the Old Oakland neighborhood, where the pupusas, chicken with fermented pineapple sauce, and other Cali-Salvadoran specialties are happily devoured.

The location spans 1,700 square feet, seats 50 inside and 20 people on the patio and will feature a California – Italian menu. The atmosphere is cozy, warmly lit, with wood paneled walls and custom lighting. We serve brunch on Saturday and Sundays as well! “We are thrilled to be a neighborhood restaurant serving our community. We have a great pizza oven and create custom Neapolitan style pizzas. Diners should come hungry and ready to enjoy freshly made pasta, meatballs, steak, lamb, seafood, salads and house made desserts all of which feature seasonal ingredients.     Who knew Oakland goes off like this? Incredible open space in what I assume is a converted warehouse. I sat upstairs, overlooking the main dining area, which was perfect. Really diverse crowd, fantastic set list by the DJ, great overall energy. Shared the Caesar salad to start, which frankly could have been half the size (it was two full romaine hearts) and the 1lb Ribeye with fries. Finished with the bread pudding. That was more than enough. Great service. Note that 20% gratuity is automatically added, which I was fine with, but just beware so you don't double-tip.

    Food came out hot, it tasted really good. The service was nice and accommodating. My picky-eater wife loved her meal. Ambiance was cool with old school R&B in the background. Oakland legend Too Short was at the table next to us. Definitely will return.
