Nestled in a residential neighborhood on Mission Street, three blocks north of Ocean Avenue lies a slice of “Old Carmel”. Originally founded in 1958 by Yvan Nopert and his family, Chef – Owner Kericos Loutas carries on the traditions of superb Country French Cuisine and personalized friendly service. A local favorite for casual fine dining in a romantic atmosphere, L’Escargot offers visitors an alternative to the “tourist experience”. The menu changes frequently, as do the specials. A three-course prix fixed Bistro Menu is offered nightly.

                                L'Escargot is consistently a top notch restaurant. It is our go-to restaurant for a traditional French dinner. The food is always fantastic. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is impeccable, with the same waitstaff year after year. The ambiance is definitely a cozy French restaurant, and the ambiance adds to the charm of the restaurant.

                                We had a wonderful evening. The veal sweetbreads were incredible. We also had the Beef Wellington and the scallops and both were delicious. Our server didn’t rush us and was so personable. We’ve been to a lot of restaurants in Carmel that are good but we always like to try new places but this will be on our list of places to return next time. This is a must try!

                                I really want to like L'Escargot but can't get there. This is our second time eating here in the last 6 months. The environment is nice. The food is good (even the skimpy premade salad and odd looking creme brulee). The wine list is average. The service is okay. The problem is you are paying exorbitant prices for what you get in return. I'm sad to say that we will be skipping L'Escargot on our next visit to Carmel.
