                                                                                                          So, Sunday night, a little rainy and humid in the Galleria. Almost feels like a late spring day, not 10 days before Christmas! Nevertheless, our family gathered for our annual Christmas dinner and we choose Maggiano's this year. It's a fabulous location, it's the holidays, what's not to like, right? First, the ambiance inside screams holiday season with all the decorations. The inside made you feel like the holidays are upon us. We lived in Houston full-time for over 30 years but still maintain an apartment here. Being in the hill country of Texas keeps us away from the city and lots of people. At Maggiano's, it's in the middle of the city and lots of people. If one is not used to that anymore, it's a little unnerving. That's precisely what we had at Maggiano's - lot's and lot's of people! Once we got seated, the server came over and talked to us about the food service. You had the option of family style dining, or order individually from their menu. We chose the latter because then one can order what they want to eat. Let me cut to the chase, the food was good, above average at best, but it was not great! The bread that was served with the olive oil for dipping was excellent. The whole group ate it up! The entrees were big, and the server helped out a lot with the choices. The food came quickly- almost too quickly. We were still finishing our salads and here came the entrees! Remember my comment about lots of people? That was several stars less in my review for rating their service. They were just too many people with too few servers to take care of the customers. The place was packed to the gills, so our customer service suffered. No matter, kudos to our server Q, he was serving too many tables with big parties like ours. We rewarded him with a nice tip, nonetheless. He worked hard and although it was hard to find him at times during our 3 hour dinner, it was not his fault. The fault lies with Maggiano's because they are allowing this kind of bad service

                                                                                                          Fabulous food! Sensational service! Awesome ambiance! As per usual, we enjoyed our dining experience. We LOVE their calamari - we have traveled all over the world and no other calamari compares with Maggiano’s!

                                                                                                          Well prepared nicely presented Italian dishes. Attentive service. The blackened salmon was a delicious surprise. Noise level is low enough for pleasant conversations.

                                                                                                          We were disappointed by a number of changes to the menu. First - different bread - not as good as previous type. Second - changes to the Maggiano salad - onions more coarsely cut/bigger pieces, bacon larger and added some different lettuces - previously we remember it being just romaine. Third - no longer offer meat sauce (or marinara with meat) - only bolognese with an upcharge - and it wasn't as thick and tomatoey as the marinara with meat sauce - didn't cover the spaghetti as well. Fourth - they no longer offer the opportunity to take a classic pasta home for a reduced price - they have dropped the "take one home for $7" option.
