The Belgian Monk opened in December 2000. The main objective was to create something different yet to fit in with the way drinking and dining is changing. It has become a successful and established bar and restaurant, offering customers a choice of a regular selection of some 45 beers together with a selection of special beers. The menu is based on serving only the best products available freshly prepared daily, at realistic prices, in an informal relaxed "friends and family" atmosphere. It provides more than just the meal or drink but a whole Belgian experience. We set out to create the kind of establishment we'd love to find in one of the UK's most beautiful cities, one where old-fashioned hospitality is valued, food is delicious and where beautiful surroundings can be found hidden around every corner.From breakfast where we serve our unique Beforenoon Tea - the breakfast edition of afternoon tea - to lunch which includes Assembly House classics and grazing boards, we're open seven days a week. We're most famous for our themed afternoon teas which change regularly and are served from noon until last service at 3.30pm daily. As the Home of Afternoon Tea, we also serve some spectacular savoury versions of tea, including Beforenoon Tea, seafood option Afternoon Sea and our cheese-based option Afternoon Cheese.     An amazing experience at The Assembly House Afternoon Tea. Beautifully decorated reception area to enjoy pre tea cocktails. Lovely attentive staff before tea and during. We chose Afternoon Sea for two and Afternoon Cheese for one. So many delicious savouries to enjoy. The Nutcracker afternoon tea was also an option and may have been a bit of a sweet treat after our seafood but we all loved every mouthful of our choices. We all felt our time at the Assembly House Afternoon Tea was the perfect way to begin 2025.

    Very attentive staff, lovely food all presented very professionally. Plenty of room between tables which is nice. Menu de jour excellent value with the addition of a couple of specials. Highly recommend.
