The Griswold Inn is an inn and restaurant located in the historic seaport village of Essex. The Gris, as it is affectionately known, has been in continous operation since 1776.`Currently we are offering dine in, dine out, and Gris To Go! Inside, guests may enjoy dining in historic, art-filled rooms which exude character, charm and tradition. Seating for the alfresco experience is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with the exception of larger parties of 7 or more which may be made by calling 860.767.1776. The Inn boasts a wine list consistently recognized by Wine Spectator with the prestigious Award of Excellence; Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure have recently recognized the Inn's restaurant as "Connecticut's coziest" and it is included in Patricia Schulz's "1000 Places to See Before You Die". Established in 1983, Chamard Vineyards, is one of the Connecticut Wine Trails founding fathers.     Four of us had a very lovely late lunch. The only reason I did not give the food 5 stars was the fish & Chips had a bit too much coating on it.The waitress was excellent.

    My husband and I had a reservation and were seated right away on the bridge room, very nice. We were asked what kind of water we wanted for our table and told our server, Evelyn would be right over to take our order, which she did. She took our cocktail order and when they were served she took our dinner order. My husband had the foil gras mousse and I had the tapioca custard appetizer. For entrees he had the scallops and u had BBQ short rib. For dessert we shared the s’mores. Everything was excellent .

    Great service and the food was excellent. Sitting in the bar area definitely has a cozy, sexy winter vibe. A definite hit!

    Great experience. Service and food first class. Pricey but well worth it. Hand duck, wife had chicken scallapini , son had bass. All outstanding. Some of the best service I ever had
