The restaurant is named after America’s most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin. While he was pinnacle in America’s birth, he also became the first ambassador to France. While on trips to Paris, he would wine and dine with the best of them and when he returned, he would bring back the French culture, food and wine, and share it with our new nation. Dishes like Potato Lyonnaise and Crème Brulée were the first of his favorites he shared with America. The Benjamin reflects that bridged gap between the two countries’ cultures. The restaurant and bar is french-inspired, but uniquely American. It sits in Ridgefield's historic district in a 1875 house, but the interiors are modern, elegant and new. Chef prepares dishes like Mussels, Foie Gras, Shrimp Toast, Chicken, Halibut, Duck, and more.

Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. Well prepared dishes were served in an extremely hectic and noisy environment. Extra charges for sides that should be included. Service was spotty. Excellent margaritas!

We were there for a celebration and it was excellent and fun! The ambience is the perfect balance of casual elegance. Everything was delicious. Highlights were the olive oil poached halibut, perfectly roasted duck breast, and desserts. The pastry chef is an award winning artist. Desserts are innovative and satisfying. Especially the creme brulee and the Benny Bar.

A wonderful dining experience. We were greeted promptly on our arrival and shown to our table Great service. We started with the Beet Salad and Meatballs. Entrees were Branzino and Caci de Pepe. Everything was delicious. Desert shared chocolate Gelato- incredible.delicious coffee was topped it all off. We decided we would return. The noise level was due to the liveliness of people dining and conversing. We were able to hold a conversation throughout the evening.

The atmosphere is hopping. The bar seems quite popular and the tables were full and animated. The servers were so busy taking care of customers and checking in, I kept bumping elbows on them. The servers really hustle here. All the food was delicious. I loved the eggplant napoleon, but I could’ve ordered 10 other tapas on the menu and been very happy. Will definitely return.
