Set under soaring ceilings with fans languidly circling above, the restaurant and its adjoining terraces are the venues for a relaxed, yet refined a la carte dining experience. Drawing fresh local produce from a community of local Hunter Valley producers and growers, as well as from the Hope family’s own Angus cattle farms in the lush green pastures of the Upper Hunter, the menu is a culinary experience of the region best shared with a loved one, or with family and friends around the table.Within view - or easy walking distance - is the kitchen garden where the kitchen and gardening teams tend to a growing section of edibles including herbs greens and native ingredients. Just across the way is a pasture home to the Hope’s own very local Angus cattle.

Instead, you’ll need to text a special code to a number on the wall and a host will open the door and usher you inside. Holding fewer than 60 guests, it’s this old world ambience that sets Coal & Cedar apart from Newcastle’s bar scene.Ethan and Ryan are the team behind the venture. In 2014, they packed their bags and moved from Sydney to the state’s largest regional city to work on their new dream bar.
