Constructed in 1833 as a residence and serving later as an inn, the building has been painstakingly renovated to preserve as many of the original materials as possible, including four working fireplaces. Thomas Juul-Hansen designed the restaurant’s interior with a modern yet rustic sensibility; zinc and marble accent stone and reclaimed wood. The restaurant’s lighting, artfully conceived by Hervé Descottes, employs paper shades and Edison fixtures to create warmth throughout.

The restaurant is named after America’s most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin. While he was pinnacle in America’s birth, he also became the first ambassador to France. While on trips to Paris, he would wine and dine with the best of them and when he returned, he would bring back the French culture, food and wine, and share it with our new nation. Dishes like Potato Lyonnaise and Crème Brulée were the first of his favorites he shared with America. The Benjamin reflects that bridged gap between the two countries’ cultures. The restaurant and bar is french-inspired, but uniquely American. It sits in Ridgefield's historic district in a 1875 house, but the interiors are modern, elegant and new. Really good food and service was great. Only two things I would change. 1. the lights in the back room were dim and keep flickering to mimic a candle. 2. when placing the order they ask for you’re whole order and we just wanted to start with the apps. But overall it was very flavorful and well plated food!! Will definitely be going again

It was a lovely place for Christmas dinner. There were some larger groups, but it was mostly tables of two, three or four people, so it wasn’t at all noisy. The Inn was decorated beautifully and the staff was friendly and efficient. There was a special menu, which included vegetarian options. It was the perfect place for us and we appreciate that they were open on Christmas day.

Everything about the evening was perfect. The half smoked chicken was tender and flavorful with delicious smokiness. The Bronzino was perfectly cooked. The brussels sprouts with pad Thai flavoring was rich and a treat. The smoked trout appetizer was wonderful, and the carrot cake at the end of our meal was spot on perfect. Merry Christmas. One of the best parts of the meal was the Prom Night mocktail. Wow!

We loved our meal of chicken pot pie, Chilean sea bass, & ny strip & spinach. Loved the pear salad too. We thoroughly enjoyed NorthStar and hope to be back in 2025.
