Welcome to the Puddicombe House, award winning casual fine dining in an elegantly restored 1868 mansion in downtown New Hamburg. Executive Chef Jammie Monk leads the culinary team. The restaurant has been named to the Open Table Top 100 Restaurants to Dine Outdoors in Canada and the top 100 Romantic Restaurant in Canada. I booked an outdoor dining option in late December for a dinner with some of my girlfriends. We were all from out of town (Guelph, Kingston, Toronto) so it was a little bit of a trek but had heard great things so made a special trip. Our reservations were for 6:45p.m. One member of our party was there around 6:40, and the other 3 of us came by 6:50 as the roads were slick. As soon as we were seated, our server hovered and asked us to order drinks and food as the kitchen closed at 7 pm. It was very uncomfortable and awkward as she literally sat us and then wanted us to order right away. I asked her if we could have a few minutes to look things over so she did give us some privacy to discuss the menu. When she returned, I asked her why they offered seatings for 6:45 if the kitchen closes at 7 and that it is a little tight of a turn around. She rudely responded with "well were you on time?" We ran 5 minutes behind. The reservation stated there was a 10 minute grace period. It was overall just rude. Additionally, the reservation states that we had 1 hour 50 minutes - so to expect people to barely sit down and order immediately was unacceptable. And then the outdoor dining space. It was not the beautiful space they showcase on their website. We booked outdoor private room, we were seated in "Pop's Place Confectionary" which felt like a traincart - one of my friends likened it to a jail cell. The ambience had much left to desire. A cold, mint green on the walls, poor lighting, with a single faux pointsettia hanging from the light fixture. The food was good. One of the ladies I dined with said that her fish was a bit salty. Our server took her plate away without asking if she was done - she wasn't actively eating her meal at the time, but hadn't decided if she was done with her meal or not. It was about 40 minute trek at the shortest distance, and not worth it. We will not be returning.

We always know that we will have an amazing meal at The Puddicombe House. It’s our special occasion go to. We sat in a winter room. It was quaint and cozy!

We ate in an outside structure. We were the only ones dining outside but our structure was pretty basic and could have used a few pictures or items around to make it look nicer. The other outside structures looked nicer. Food was absolutely fantastic.

Our terrific and bubbly server was Hanna. Our meals were very tasty and well spaced between app and main course. We love eating in the tiny house for two. Very pretty with the electric fireplace, festive pillows and twinkling lights on the spruce trees out side our window.

Your new outdoor experience room was excellent even on a dreary day. Server was professional and fun. Food was definitely up to expectations.

We loved our private cozy space, great service and delicious food. So nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of a busy dining room. We'll be back!
