Bringing Chef James Cochran to Islington’s ever-evolving food scene with his restaurant 12:51. Having won the popular BBC TV programme ‘Great British Menu’, the talented chef will be bringing some of his dishes from the show to the tables of 12:51.
Situated right in the heart of the bustling Upper Street, 12:51 seats 38. The venue welcomes guests serving a 5-course taster menu only for lunch and dinner - £49pp. On Sunday is our famous 12:51 Sunday roast menu only!
The venue has a minimal, studio-like interior, dotted with quirky features from the original Victorian building. The double-height windows on the ground floor allow natural daylight to flood in and will be a space for changing contemporary artwork from artists from the local community and friends of the 12:51 team. 12:51 has a curated playlist of classic funk, soul, hip hop and rock & roll tunes to take diners from day tonight. Just to be aware that we don't cater for vegans or dairy-free. Booking could be on a high table.

                                      Bit disappointed that we went to 12:51 since it's closing down only to feel pretty let down by an expensive and not so great tasting menu. It started off badly having ordered a bottle of wine which I asked for with the food and when i reminded them after we'd finished the first course they told me they didn't have it. But the food was equally disappointing for a meal which came to over £135 each with drinks. Too much salt, particularly in the final meat dish, some kind of beef tartare which wasn't particularly appealing. It's certainly been a lot better in the past.

                                      Underwhelming. Found hair and a big piece of plastic in the food. Courgette Soup, only a few tiny weeny pieces of Trout was in it.

                                      Had the five course tasting menu, and optional chicken and truffle extra starter. Everything was delicious, the chicken was our favourite, but everything great. The place is small and decor basic, but staff excellent and helpful, food is wonderful. Portions small, but we were full by the end.
