Akahoshi Ramen is a humble ramen shop in the city of Chicago. Everything is made in the restaurant, including all soups, seasonings, toppings, and noodles.

We are not an authentic ramen shop, though we value the history of ramen, and our ramen is influenced by its past and its future potential. The dish, popularized in Japan after World War 2, is symbolic of both struggle and perseverance. It is both a simple dish, and a fantastically complex one that we treat with reverence and respect.

Roughly translating to “Red Star,” the name “Akahoshi” is a love letter to two cities; Sapporo, Hokkaido, where red stars adorn city monuments, and Chicago, Illinois, where the red star decorates the city flag. Our ramen is influenced by Japanese and American ideals in cooking.

We hope you will join us to enjoy a bowl of ramen, made with the respect and passion it deserves.

Get comfortable at one of the spacious booths, or watch the action at the counter overlooking the kitchen, and choose from four different ramens like the Akahoshi Miso, with pork chashu and bamboo shoots. Each bowl is made with incredible attention to detail, showcasing just how nuanced ramen can be.

                                  Sunday specials are a one off experience, and unforgettable. This one particularly. The truffle aroma and flavor just boosted everything and elevated the slurping experience.

                                  Sat at the bar. Extremely easy to get a solo reservation after 7. Had two bowls. The spicy monthly special was simple perfection (the egg is a MUST add). The signature miso was also delicious but not as good as the spicy monthly. The Hokkaido Handshake was a wonderful accompaniment. The beer works with the ramen, the shot is a perfect digestif.

                                  It shows that Ramen_Lord (Chef Mike) really puts a lot of effort into his recipes. It was delicious. Make sure to order the egg as an extra topping and sit at the bar so you can watch them make prepare the dishes.

                                  Great restaurant and experience. Might be a short wait even with a reservation as tables and groups turn over, unrushed by the staff.

                                  Chasu was melt in your mouth without any overdoneness in the muscle. Came in without knowing all they served was ramen and thrice sides. Wished there was more but as a fan, I would not have been disappointed knowing this ahead of time so be prepped with the correct appetite. Broth was out of this world. Egg was jammy and perfect. A true passionate chef with a vision to deliver.

Did I enjoy my food and drink? - yes Was it a cool atmosphere? - yes Would I go again? - yes Would I recommend it? - yes Is it the best Ramen I’ve ever had? - no* Ok, so it might not be the best I’ve ever had. *However, the CHASHU PORK was absolutely delicious. That pork was the best I have ever had.

                                  Finally got a reservation and it was amazing. We arrived early and got seated right away. Ramen was delicious. Asked for a side of spice that gave a pop to all flavors. The eggs are full of flavor. By far the best egg in a ramen. Cool to see chef behind counter cooking it up.

                                  Will return again. Food and service were great. I recommend trying a cocktail while you are there too. Creative and tasty. I tried a soupless ramen this time and it was really unique and delicious.

                                  It was very good! We got stuck in traffic from downtown so we were 20 min late. Were able to be seated but time restricted. I wish I knew it’s for 1 hour seating but the ramen was very nice!
